I use a larkshead but I remove it after each excursion so it doesn't have time to bind up.

Only real problem with a larkshead is if it decides to break. You then have a very out of control jib.

We have always used a larks head and haven't had any hang up issues. Yes, it's tough to undo at the end of a season, but a fid or marlin spike will help to gently ease the knot apart.
