Busting through an inlet...

Inlets can be among the most dangerous segments of any passage. I've been through many of them, some were a piece of cake, some were sheer panic. Here's a classic example of the later. Not sure where it is, but the water is pretty filthy and I suspect it's somewhere in New England judging by the fishing rigs.

Ho Lee Crap! And I thought coming in and out of Hillsboro Inlet could give you a rough ride! Where is that?

Info on the video says, Grey River Bar in full flood. Greymouth, NZ.

It didn't look like a US boat. The name on the radar and fishing gear set up gave that away.

That was crazy bad. I try not to watch these things. They make my heart race too much...

I had to remind myself to breathe a few times during that video. Not for me, no thank you!

Been to Greymouth in NZ. The whole South Island is very 'challenging' for sailors. There is a reason why Kiwi sailors are so good. I wonder if the pay for these fishermen includes an underwear allowance.

Dang... that is really hardcore. Makes you wonder about the risks people take to make a living.

I liked Hillsboro better than going out Government Cut in 8' incoming rollers.

I do not want to do that. Against the tide with a following sea. No way.

yea the bars over here can be a bit dicey, but remember you dont have to cross them usually waiting a day or three and they may calm down.A friend of mine has a motor in his trawler out of a boat wrecked on the greymouth bar all three guys on board drowned.Happens about once every 3 years.
