Gone Wireless!!! Jib Halyard replacement.

My wire jib halyard was getting pretty frayed so I decided to replace it with New England Ropes VPC line. It was a pretty simple thing. Had the line spliced at the local Westmarine which now has a rigging shop. The rigger came to the boat and helped remove the old line. Grabbed the shackle from that line and measured it. Old line was 85 feet. I made the new one 90 so I can have a little extra for when I run the line to the cockpit. Here are some pics.

Exactly what I did last winter! VPC is pretty low stretch. I taught myself how to splice it. One thing I had a issue w/ was slippage in the clutches as I dropped down to 3/8" from 7/16". Bulked up the halyard where it hits the clutch by putting some 3/16" Amsteel in the core to make it thicker. Worked like a charm.

Awesome! Did you guys have any problems with the new line going over the old sheaves?

Re: Gone Wireless!!! Jib Halyard replacement.

I am still mildly surprised whenever I see a wire/line spliced halyard these days. I HATED that kind of set up when I had one about 20 years ago. When the new, low-stretch line came down in price so that even those of us with small boats could afford to use it, I was one happy camper.
