Bahamas permits

I have heard that cruising in the Bahamas requires a $300 permit, and that this is not a new thing, but is now being enforced. Does anyone know about this, where to get it (at customs?) and how long it''s good for?

Eddie, the basics are spelled out at www.bahamas.com/bahamas/about/general.aspx?sectionid=24465&level=2

It''s been in effect for several years now, and the fees vary by size of boat. I notice they don''t stipulate a time period. You''ll also notice the comment that no overtime fees are now due. Watch that...as apparently some officials ''forget'' about this change.
