Stinky head help

This is a bizzar but I have been experimenting with Avon skin so soft. OK wise guys hit me with your best shot on that statement. Here it goes I tried this twice this week one table spoon aproximate measure,a squirt around the bowl. The oil smells well allot better than the option pee and the stinkin water that you always get when you pump the head. The oil stays in the bowl unless you do a real heavy flush it lasted three days the first time two days the second time and very small amounts of a little extra oil add to the slick it forms on the top of the water thus blocking the smell. It has another added benifit it oils the pump and it is easy to pump. I will keep trying this for the next month but it is working great right now and seems like it will beat the heck out of all the expencive chemicals I dump down the hole and with alot less impact on the inviroment. So Skin So Soft will keep gnats off and soften your skin and make your crapper smell better. "Ding Dong" Avon Calling.

Stinky head help

sailnaway,

Interesting use of hand lotion. I installed a relativly inexpensive device sold by Wast Marine called an "In Line Treatment System". You can search West''s on-line store with those exact words if your not already familiar with the device.

The odors as you may know are usually dying "creatures" in the raw sea water after it has set for hours. The tablets used in the treatment system are pretty efective at neutralizing the odors and also provide a lubricating effect on the plumbing parts.

I have read a post a while ago from someone who had no luck at all with it but it has worked for me for 3 seasons now. As well as your Avon seems to work - I can''t calim this is any better, but it does "automate" the task!

Thanks for the imput, yes I did know it was the little critters that die in the line that smell it up. I had not heard of the inline treetment sold by West. The oil I am using may not be cost effective. I think you could use Witch Hazel or some other light oil that smells nice as long as it did not eat the seals up. The other good thing about using the oil is that it makes the pump real smooth and easy to pump.

Stinky head help

probably a very bad idea to use skin so soft. Im thinking that it could damage the rubber parts in the pump and/or you dont want to pump that junk over board. There is a expert on stinky heads; do a google search for peggy the head mistress. stinky heads come down to the science of bacteria. Basically you want to introduce air, yes air, into the tank so that the aerobic bacteria stay alive and digest the waste. This will solve your stink problem.

Yes I knew about the air in the system and that is good for the stinky tank. The problem I have is high useage of the head like having five to seven people on the boat it smells like a biker bar. I would hope the Skin So Soft would not eat your skin off and that it did not melt the plastic bottle so it wont hurt the rubber parts of the head.

Stinky head help

Hi we had a stinky head and tried everything some things worked others did not. We had a seal go and developed a leak a couple of days ago. The stench was so gross! Anyway we went to Boatersworld and got a new toilet and went to West marine for the inline filter...we just finished installing both and will keep ya posted so far so good. The one at West Marine was 34.00 and that includes 1 tablet for the filter. The tablets run around 4.50 a tablet or 4 for 28.00 at west marine. Might be cheaper on the internet. The tablets last around 30 days for liveaboards and longer for weekenders (so they say) I am keeping my fingers crossed but it sure is nice no stink and new shiny toilet LOL
