best drink?

Sailors being the people of the world probably have far more experience than I in finding a good drink. I ask what is the best (in your opinion) and how do I make one for myself?

Fill glass half full with ice, fill with rum, add lime. If it''s a little harsh at first, add an ounce of coke. Don''t use any of the slum rum (coconut flavored, spiced, berried, etc.).

Fine wine with meals, microbrew beer when thirsty and on occasion - Mount Gay with ice is nice along with good friends and a strong anchor or firmly tied to dock . . . otherwise the captain never drinks while under way.

I know . . . playing by the rules is boring, but no sense in being senseless in this crazy world.

Get someone to pour (and pay) for three fingers of Lagavulin, a 16 year old single malt.

Then sip, very slowly.

After several rumathalons and worn out blenders I have come to the conclusion that a bottle of Ron Zacapa "centenario", straight, is better the way to go.
If that doesn''t work, try this: coco lopez, dark rum, vodka, kahluha, ice cream. I call it a Lagoona. Non fattening, can''t get you drunk, or pregnant.

Here is a true sailors drink: the dark and stormy. Made in places where sailors hang out including Bermuda and Newport, RI. Find yourself a bottle of Goslings Black Seal Rum and some ginger BEER. Not ginger ale or anything else but ginger beer. You can find it in the supermarket usually; its non-alcoholic. There are 2 versions of this: 1. fill a glass with ice, add a measure of Goslings and then fill with Ginger Beer. 2. Fill a glass with ice. Fill it close to the top and then add your measure of Goslings. (Credit to the Candy Store/Clarke Cooke House in Newport for #2) Squeeze and lime, drop it in and enjoy.

Goslings Black Seal is THE best rum.
Ginger beer, lime, and a good white tequila on the rocks is fabulous on a hot, thirsty day.

Oh, and I almost forgot: Coco Loco.
Chop the top off a drinking coconut, add lime juice, vodka, white rum, white tequila, gin, ice and a few mint leaves crushed. The quality of the boozes isn''t too important and the proportions are what you dare. Add two straws and a good friend. (Or someone you hope to become good friends with)
