Very nice story GOB. Sounds strangely similar to mine, so I can relate. Fair winds and following seas!

Re: FOUND: Good Old Boat

Great boat and even better life story GOB. Makes me want to write mine up someday. It would be different but similar in that boats have until recently lurked in the background. But for now too many projects and too much sailing to do (even in December in CHS). Thanks for sharing...

Thank You! I see you have a 2 boats, one being 16 footer - which is something I'm considering for trailer sailing this Summer!

Re: FOUND: Good Old Boat

Great write ups! I love my Compac 16, however, I wouldn't consider it being a cruiser. It would be like overnighting in a coffin. I also considered moving up to the Compac 23, but having a family of 5 just doesn't work on a CP23. I will be selling my CP16 this spring as it doesn't even work as a day sailer for my family anymore. They are great little boats, great design, but just too small or our needs. They trailer really nicely though!

Just acquired the 22. Just like Smier, I found that the 16 was fun, but a little too small. And even with a modification, by the PO, that allows you to run either the standard sloop rig or a lanteen sail, it was more work than pleasure. Getting a little old to be hanging my ass over the side for ballast all the time. Thinking the 22 foot will be a little more casua style of sailing. Plus, I won't have to carry a tent anymore! And the 22 is highly trailerable as well.

Re: FOUND: Good Old Boat

Thanks for the feedback and sharing your boat choices.

I am really looking at the 16-footers as primarily daysailers
w/ a cuddly cabin/portapotti - that I can easily trailer.

That said I really like both the Star Wind and Laguna Wind Rose 22's.

If anyone is heading to the Chesapeake bay this Spring-Summer - let me know!!

Dave
