PHRF???

Could someone explain what the numbers in the PHRF rating represent? For example, the rating of our Tartan 30 is around 180. 108 what? thanks in advance. Jim

The numbers in PHRF are in seconds per mile. In its original form a 12 meter of that era rated zero and all of the other ratings were relative to a 12 meter. So, in theory, a Tartan 30 is 180 seconds a mile slower than a 12 meter. Also for example, A J-24 rates around 174, so a J-24 would owe you 6 seconds per mile. A J-35 rates around 72 and so would owe you 108 seconds a mile.

thanks jeff, I knew the numbers represented seconds per mile but I didn''t know what the baseline was. I was reasonably sure that our boat wasn''t supposed to be doing a mile every 180 seconds!! thanks again, Jim Lintereur
