Re: Sailing on network TV! "Chasing Shackleton" on tonight!

That was great fun to watch. I found it interesting -- maybe a bit disappointing -- that they focused so heavily on the loss of electronics given that the guys are trying to recreate exactly Shackleton's voyage. I understand that they need to have the safety net, but why make it such a focus at the end of this first episode?

Edit to add: It's on the PBS Roku channel as well.

Re: Sailing on network TV! "Chasing Shackleton" on tonight!

All of the survival up to the point before the Sailing and the hike over the terrain after making land fall. Any part of this is amazing. The full book is better than can be described. At times it might not seem to impress some folks because we have men surfing a 100 foot wave and the x games on television. We need to pause and think. This would compare to going to Mars for us today. It was some of the best exploration of that time period.
Good day, Lou

I dug it out just for this. Haven't used it in a decade. It did a nice job actually. Chasing Shackleton and their 1916 boat ain't got nothin' on me and my 1997 VCR!

Had I known it would be on the PBS site (and iPad app) I wouldn't have bothered. But my wife says they don't leave Downton Abbey available for long - sometimes just a few weeks. So don't count on this being available permanently?

Update: The PBS App claims Episode 1 will be available until January 2024. So you have a decade to watch it. No hurry. Guess I can put my VCR back in storage. Or watch my wedding video. Nah. Back in storage!

Nothing wrong with a VCR. I still have a 19" TV/VCR combo. My fiancée thinks I need to discard it but it's still good Finding blank tapes, though, is a pain.
