Want to install a head in an Alerion 28

I have an Alerion 28 which I love to day sail, but do no cruising. However, it does not have a true head, only a porta potty. Has anyone looked into installing a head in the forward part of the cabin? Don't use the v-birth except for storage.

Is there room for a 'real' head where the portapotti usually sits? Clearly it's possible if you can create a solid base, and then you have to install the through hulls and/or a holding tank.

You'll need a water intake unless you plan to use your freshwater (assuming you have that), and a discharge if overboard discharge is permitted anywhere you'll be. You'd also need a deck pumpout fitting for the tank.

All in all it's not a simple job.. and you're drilling holes in an otherwise unbreached hull.. for that sort of boat I'd give it some thought. There's something to be said about a simple daysailer without those kinds of complications...

Have you considered a composting head? Much smaller and infinitely simpler.

The composting head unit itself is generally bigger but if there is enough room for that it likely would work better as there are no other parts and no tanks. There are also some heads with a built in holding tank but the have so little holding capacity nothing is really gained.
