Re: Pete Seeger died today

I saw Pete, Arlo Guthrie, and John Prine together in concert back in the mid 80's. I remember thinking that it was something special that I would recall the rest of my life.

I have had the pleasure of sailing on a similar vessel/concept to the Clearwater... The Adventuress in the PNW
Sound Experience

Several crew members of the Adventuress had also sailed with the Clearwater. They all spoke highly of Pete, who was still very much involved in her operation.

Rest in Peace, and thank you, Pete

Yes, the first time I met Pete was at the Clearwater Festival. The festival was over and I look over at this old man picking up garbage, and low and behold it was Pete! He asked that I take a picture of him with my children saying he would not likley be in there world much longer. That was over ten years ago. We then worked to help clean up the park. Funny thing about him, he just had a way about him no pretensions at all.

Re: Pete Seeger died today

He lived a few miles North of me on the Hudson and we often ran into him at local events. I still have a vision of him picking up garbage and putting in the trash can while waiting for the train to arrive at the Cold Spring Station. A truly great human being. He radiated love and compassion. He will be sorely missed.

Re: Pete Seeger died today

I only met him once but worked with his grandson Tal. My only experience with him was while working on the Mystic Whaler. Tal had invited use to an upscale event that he and his Grandfather were playing at. A motley bunch of under dressed sailor. We weren't exactly invited in.

As we were about to hail a cab and return to the boat, they started shouting for us to come back. Seems Pete had decided that if the party was to good for us then he would head back to the boat with his grandson. Seeing as he was the headliner for the event, the wealthy greenies decided that bringing in the actual people working with the program they were supporting wasn't the worst thing to do.

My prayers go out to his family.
