Situps and leg-raisers are always a good thing for people who need to hike a lot. Upper body strength for trimmng sails is also good to have, so bench pressing should help with that. The Coach is likely looking for people who weigh the right amount to crew with the others on the team, He''s also looking for people who do the right things without being told -- stuff like sitting forward in the boat next to the other crew and adjusting the jib leads if they need it. Smooth boathandling skills are also sought after. Tactics and racing know-how can come later, after you make the team.
