Thanks I was at work and could not remember the name. Was not happy about the cost but very happy about not having a crabby wife in the morning. Froli it is. Had german lady sell it to us. She was very helpful in figuring out how many we would need. You can control the stiffness of the springs just like those fancy dan air mattresess.

Most futons are cotton or other fibers, I don't think I would want one on a boat as they would hold moisture.

While I reckon that with more modern craft the cotton thing is somewhat over blown I'd have to agree with Miata re no Futons. Cotton sheets may well take in more moisture than synthetic but they dry out quickly, a damp futon is not to be imagined.

For mine, a good nights sleep is most important (I'm old, these days beds are for sleeping .... sigh ) and I do plan on having a custom made mattress made and damn the expense.

Regarding the Frolli gizmos ..... how easy are they to pack up if you need to access under the v-berth ? I've been a bit wary of them.

You only need to unsnap the ones near the boards edges. For the forward queen a non issue as the whole thing lifts on hydraulic cylinders. For the aft quarter berth just don't snap together where the bundle board goes. Don't see your concern a major issue unless you are going in and out of the lockers under the berths frequently. The cost was a shock for a bunch of pieces of plastic but it's a buy once expense so think its worth it.

In almost all cases in cruising boats, the preferred location for sleeping is toward the aft. The V-bert is OK for the marina or calm anchorage but in cruising mode, the bow moves up and down more than any part of the vessel which can make sleeping uncomfortable.

Sleep will be one of the most important needs during overnight cruising. Make sure you get the best innerspring or memory foam mattress possible.

Absolutely true but I'm thinking this thread is more about when at anchor or berthed. If just the two of us I sleep in the saloon when overnighting. Makes it quicker and easier to hit the cockpit if needed. When fully crewed I'll go quarter berth though I do admit that on one overnighter in quite nasty conditions I crawled into the forward cabin (which on that particular boat was nowt but a sail locker) and slept like a log cocooned by the sails.
