Sailing Clubs in San Diego?

I've been transferred to Scottsdale, Arizona from S.E. Massachusetts. It's a great area to live, but I'll have to sell my '86 Ericson 30+. It's been an excellent boat for me, but I won't be able to maintain it easily on the West Coast when I'm living in Arizona, even assuming that I would truck it cross country.

The good news is that it's a short flight to San Diego (or long car ride) - a trip we plan to make regularly during the blisteringly hot July and August months. We'd like to go back to chartering - relatively new boats with someone else worrying about the engine repairs, bottom painting, etc. We want to join a sailing club that will let us reserve from a fleet of boats for long weekends or week-long trips. So far, the Harbor Island Yacht Club looks pretty good.

Does anyone have any recommendations for sailing clubs in the San Diego area? Any reviews/tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! - Rob

There are also a couple of Scottsdale/Pheonix fellows who have boats in Ventura and Channel Islands Harbors, and fly into Burbank or other nearby airport. (Camarillo if you are also a pilot)

Thanks. It looks like Harbor Island has more boats, but requires you to pay a small fee each month towards a charter, which you'll lose at the end of 12 months if you don't take a boat out. I don't see that as a big issue, but I am interested in people's opinion of the Harbor Island club vs. the Shelter Island one. - Rob
