For hundreds of years harbors have been the attention of the artist in every corner of the world. Remember that guy Jesus he lived close to the sea and many pictures that depict his life have harbors in the background, depending on the artist that is. Art gallerys around the world have paintings of harbors with ships some wood some steel some plastic or fiberglass. the one thing most have in common "was" the vessels sat at random in places around the harbor small boats at the shore and larger vessels further out into the harbor. The artist saw the harbor and its vessels as a melting pot where people came togather from all walks of life from near and far. Some came as visitors some carried cargo some just sat and slowley died as the old captains who once sailed them passed also. Today in places like Marathon Boot Key Harbor in the Florida Keys the artists eye has been blinded. No more will the vessels scatter on the harbor and create a moving picture that can be captured and held forever on canvas or paper the random beauty is gone. Today the harbor is
lines of dozens of perfectly spaced moorings more like a trailer park and not like harbors the artist eye would seek to capture an image of. This is a sad development much like cutting down a forest and building track housing with lots of paved roads and signs. This makes my heart ache as an artist I feel my canvas will soon be painted black.
