Question Haul-out Charleston area

I'm new to area and will be here for a couple of seasons. I have a 42' 22ton sailboat and am looking for a facility that lies between Savanah, GA and Georgetown, SC or thereabouts that is 1. Honest 2. lets you do your own work 3. is inexpensive 4. will let you stay aboard your boat while working on it for a short period of time. Although all four qualifications are important I think I've placed them in order of importance so even if you know of one that only hits 3 of 4 let me know.

Names of places that match these qualifications are greatly appreciated numbers even moreso.

Thanks, T

Try Ross Marine just south of Charleston. Don't know if they allow self work but they were honest and reasonable on a repair I had done and can easily handle your boat. www.rossmarine.com

We also used Ross Marine last summer and was very pleased. We did some minor things ourselves, left the thru holes and engine work to them.
They will not let you do any exterior hull painting. Family owned, knowledgable and honest. However, there is no such thing as a cheap boatyard, but they were reasonable.

We spent over two years at what used to be Halsey Cannon boatyard which is just north of Charleston on the Wando River. It was bought by the same holding company as the City Marina in downtown last summer and they've slowly been cleaning it up and turning it into a real professional operation. We lived right next door so I was able to keep an eye on their progress. They're putting in a small marina, paving areas of the yard, building a new paint shed, etc etc. The painter, Donnie is a great guy as well as Joshua, the yard "do-it-all." Shaun is the manager and is friendly, but otherwise doesn't leave the office.

They are now called the Charleston City Boatyard. Check the web and you should find them.
