If you do not have much experience with drilling and tapping, you may want to practice on a piece of similar material, using the correct size of drill (specified on the tap) and tap. You are going to be working with a thin piece of soft metal and you have to do it right. Rivets are great, but they can be a royal PITA to remove if you should ever need that.
