Re: Dangers of Whales

Saw this on Sailing Anarchy, supposed to be all about whales in Hawaii;

Smartmine Whale Tracker

I couldn't get it to load, maybe someone else can?

I just saw this, too. It loads automatically in my browser and it also shows wind and current direction. Very cool app, but it depicts the whales moving at some ridiculously fast clip. No scale provided. That's a lot of tags, as well....and a lot of whales to bug while getting them to stick. Hope they're collecting good data.

Re: Dangers of Whales

OH MY GAWD, now some of the whales are crossing over the Island of Hawaii!! WHO KNEW?!? It's about 4 am in Hawaii right now. Maybe this has always been their typical behavior? There is so much more we need to fear about these whales...

(Sorry, OP. I'm really not making light of your fears. We all have them.)

Sorry to disappoint you, but most likely what you saw scampering across the road was a Samoan. They look amazingly like whales on land, but their songs do not travel as far out of the water.

Oh dear, best to put your flak jacket on, the PC folks will have you for dinner, well done. If I had written that they would be screaming "RACIST" at the top of their lungs.

Re: Dangers of Whales

I am not worried about whales, but aliens are a real threat i my cruising grounds. I am near Pine Bush NY one if the highest concentrations of alien sighting in the world!

Weird New York

But for this all you need is a cap made out of aluminum foil!
