Re: Spring Sailing......

Beautiful boat, looks brand new. I love the line organization in the companionway, I've never seen that before.

Re: Spring Sailing......

Boat on auto pilot. Alone in deck. No pfd. Walking around w/o holding on. NOT a good plan.

Re: Spring Sailing......

Thanks for your input. Your concern is not invalid. However, on a nice beautiful calm day like that, walking around on deck is one of the glories of sailing.

There are some other things to note too like we didn't have our horseshoe device on the stern rail nor was the MOM installed yet.

I used to take my now 16 year old sailing when she was a baby. I would sail on autopilot, and in that case I would actually wear my tether as going overboard would be a very bad thing.

On the days in the video the chances of going overboard are really zero. There are all sorts of risks in life that are higher than that like walking down a city street. Again, not knocking the point you were making, everyone should be aware of that.

Re: Spring Sailing......

With a crew like that you should be sipping an expresso while they sail the boat

BTW...I am very impressed with how clean your boat is...oh yeah...and I hate you

Re: Spring Sailing......

Thanks! I polished the hull topsides at the yard, but the deck and stern are not done yet. I did the teak after the delivery video. The toe rails need to be stripped of the varnish. I did the front one on the starboard side. There are three on each side. I actually lifted it up and re-bedded much of it because the last bolt popped out.

Re: Spring Sailing......

On a beautiful calm day a week ago sat the Charles w. Morgan was being moved from Mystic Seaport to New London to finish it's fitting out and ballasting before it's historic voyage this summer. A large fleet of spectators was following the trip. One of the spectators was an "experienced" sailor out solo never made it back to port. They found his boat south of Fishers Island. His body has not been found.
This is the third person in the last 2 years around here that has gone over and perished in "perfect conditions".
I'm guessing the water temp isn't much above 40 there.
Don't get stuck on stupid.

Sailing last Sunday. Just a little while after this, we came upon 4 Chicago Police boats, 3 US Coast Guard boats and a Coast Guard helicopter performing a search for 2 missing in the water after their powerboat caught fire and sank the night before.
