Restoring Rhodes Robin- Question

Hi- Looking for someone with a Rhodes Robin who can help with a detail. The two pieces of mahogany that are just in front of the mast are separated from one another. (Splash guard, I think) It appears there may have been something between them. I am trying to figure out what, if anything, is missing.
Thanks!
