Re: Arthur

Thankfully, the New England coast does not look like it will get a direct hit and should be on the weaker side of what is predicted to be a tropical storm by then. However, passages out to the islands for the 4th are likely to be pretty nasty. If anything, I usually find sea condition predictions to understated as these occur. Be careful out there.

Re: Arthur

Latest forecast for New Bern tonight is winds 30-40, gust up to 55 out of the east shifting southeast. New Bern Grand (DoubleTree), that's pretty much bow on. Unless they're way low, shouldn't be as bad as the last one. And I slept through most of that one.

Here at Northwest Creek Marina, just down from downtown New Bern. Good hidey hole. We plan on being on the boat tonight unless it turns further west.

Re: Arthur

I remember making a post here about a week before Sandy leveled my area ( Lavallette NJ ). A lot of people were assuming it would be a minor inconvenience but had my theories kept to myself because people thought I was crazy. I got a call from my friend moving his fishing fleet to Nova Scotia I believe and that was my determining factor. Hauled the boat, battened down the hatches at the house abd watched as every marina had a line of boats they couldn't haul. Moral of the story ? Nature is unpredictable so follow your instinct. People laughed off Sandy and every storm since her but the truth is the landscape here is damaged and vulnerable now. Also, 6 sandbags didn't do jack to keep 5 feet of water out of my house..I would like to get some surf out of Arthur however.
