Peterson 33

I used to race a Peterson 33 in Cape Town South Africa, we had about 8 of them sailing in our fleet. Most were cruiser racers, the one I sailed was a stripped out racing machine - they were really fast for their time late 70's early 80's - the boats were all named after peppers - Black Pepper, Red Pepper, Green Pepper, Paprika and then the odd one out - French Connection.
I am currently based in Tanzania where there is a Peterson 33 that the chap used to race and cruise - he sails it 2 up, 1 up etc.
Nice boat for 2 people to cruise, but quite cramped with more

Sweet Surrender, I read on your blog that you didn't buy the Peterson due to a bad engine. Was there anything else that was a dealbreaker?

A Doug Peterson designed 33 footer was produced by Chaser Yachts for a time around then, also quite a few were built in Korea as well. US yachts built a modified version as a US 33 after purchasing molds from Chaser.

Typical IOR influenced design from that era, not a bad value for the dollar as a rule, but not as roomy as more modern designs, esp in the cockpit area.

Anna, if these are the Kelly Peterson 44/46s, then we're talking about an entirely different breed....

Doug Peterson designed a lot of boats. However, many of them were one-off custom racers or were only produced in small numbers by a large number of different builders. I think one of the more popular ones was the Peterson 34, of which there were less than 100 built. Unfortunately, these relatively small numbers don't lend themselves to a dedicated Peterson discussion forum.

Disclaimer: my boat is a Peterson 34, and my own website is one of the only places I've seen yet with much information on these boats.
