Re: Fairly affordable IRIDIUM setup

I wondered, myself. No mention on the page I cited. Perhaps someone can clarify?

Re: Fairly affordable IRIDIUM setup

I love this kind of stuff. Technology is changing so quickly and communications are one area where things are getting better, cheaper and smaller all the time. I expect that when I'm ready to depart on my big trip I'll be as in touch as I want to be for a reasonable price.

Thanks for the link, I'll keep my eye on this.

1200$ + 100$ a month no contract.

Only activate when crossing oceans.

Sounds good to me.

Anyone want to buy an HF set and Pactor modem.

Second in line. I have insulated backstays with nothing attached to them! A crime I say....

Honestly though, I probably can't afford it right now, and wouldn't use it for a few years. The bank account was pillaged by the purchase of my new boat.

Funny, no tech specs on the website. It can't be any faster than the sat phones because they run off the same satellites.
