Replacement key

Can anyone tell me how to get a replacement key for a 1997 Universal 18hp motor. The admiral missplaced it on Monday, besides it's not a bad idea to keep a couple of spares.

Thanks

Dave

Ignition/Starting key? => new switch!

I assume that the (start/ignition) switch would have to be replaced.

If there is a serial number on the switch it might be possible to contact either Universal or more likely the switch manufacturer and have a key made. More commonly, it seems that the switch is a fairly cheap(??$20-$35??) item and that finding a new key for that switch is cost/time prohibitive.

Replacement Key

You may find, as is the case with my Yanmar, that all the keys are the same, at least for that engine panel.

You might want to check with Universal before replacing the switch.

Local hardware store makes spares for me using a blank for a cabinet lock if you can find an old one to copy. As others have mentioned try using a dockmates key, lots of times they will work with almost anything that fits in it.
