unwanted critters

I would like to know if anyone has ever been able to repell flies from a boat under light winds. At some times of the year while sailing Lake Michigan our boat will be covered with them. On a good sailing day when the winds are blowing we have no problem. if the wind dies we get covered.

Incense

Incense helps mostly with the smaller/smallest flies/gnats but you might give it a shot.

Deet. Citronella. Or lots of cheap cigars.

You sure your friends didn't stuff a dead rat in the boom?

Mosquito coils will probably do the trick... but they fail in any kind of wind...so you should be okay with them.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.
