Alabama River Cutoff

Greetings from Plano, Tx.
Now that I've done it, maybe the wrong way, how has anyone charted a course from Coffeville, on the Tombigbee, to Dog River marina, at Mobile ,Al.??
Did you go down the Mobile River through the Ship canal?, or did you take the Alabama River Cutoff to the east and under those 16ft fixed bridges north of Daphane, Fairport ?.

Hello there pegleglouis, I don't have a answer for your question. I was just excited to here from someone in my neck of the woods. We water ski at coffeville all the time. We see lots of sailboats go by motoring. This is probably a stupid question(I'm new to the sport of sailing) But does anyone ever acually sail on the river? Can it even be done? All we see are people motoring their sailboats which seems like it defeats the purpose of having a sailboat. Your message was the first I have read that talks about this part of the country.

You want to stay in the westernmost channel. If there are any fixed bridges less than 51 ft in clearance, you're in the wrong stretch of water.

Daydreambeliever....in the blog section, there is an account of a trip from Mobile to Guntersville Lake. Aside from Bay Springs Lake, between Mobile and Pickwick Lake is primarily a slack water route for transit, between the Gulf and the Tennessee River.
