Yes it was my first sailing book, can't find it now but it was a great all around illustrated gem.

One of my favorite sailing books is titled, "Sensible Cruising: The Thoreau Approach. A Philosophic & Practical Approach To Cruising" by Don Casey and Lew Hackler. Originally published in 1986, my copy dates back to 1997 when I had dreams of sailing around the world in my 1968, 26' Columbia!

To quote from the book, "If wisdom can be defined as common sense that has withstood the test of time, then Sensible Cruising is a wise book."
It explains:
• Why a sensible cruise is affordable to almost anyone.
• Why the boat of choice for most cruisers is under 35 feet.
• Why lowering the cost doesn't devalue the cruise.
• How simplicity minimizes insulation from the experience.
• How to think in terms of how little, not how much, is really required.

I second this opinion, very good book.

I just finished a great book, don't know if its not already on this list, I did not search through all 27 pages.

"A Voyage of Mad Men", is a great read about the first solo nonstop race around the world; The Golden Globe. I found it completely fascinating. It is very well written full of history and wonderful personalities.

Farley Mowat- The Boat Who Wouldn't Float

Shrimpy by Shane Acton, essential reading anytime you think you need more boat or more equipment.

It is hard to find but a great read. It details a novice sailor who buys a 18 foot ply wood bilge keel boat and sails it around the world.
