cabin heater fuel

I''ve just bought a 30'' custom sloop with a Newport solid fuel heater. I''m new to cruising, and am wondering what kind of fuel to use. I''ve read some bad things about coal, and prefer wood anyway, but there''s not a lot of room. Does anybody (is it possible to) burn wood pellets in these things? TIA

Rick
