Volvo 2020D Hand crank?

Hi,

My boat was repowered by the previous owner with a Volvo 2020D (made by Perkins). The engine is recent, set up well and is running fine. I have not found a hand crank for this engine, as available for other Volvo Penta engines. Has anybody experience with hand-starting this engine or an idea for another backup starting option? Like a battery powered drill on the alternator?

Thanks!

Jan

No decompressors so no chance of hand starting.

As for a drill on the alternator hmmm never heard of that actually working.

Yep, agree with TQA.

I tried more than once to start a 3cyl Yanmar that DID have de-compressors and never once achieved success.

Without de-compressors? The engine supplier that provides such an engine with a crank handle has at least got a sense of humor.

The Yanmar 3cyl starter motor has a standard spec of 1.4kW. And that is at a ratio to the crankshaft of at least 3 times the alternator so a hand-held drill on the alt? Forget about it. A back-up starting option is another battery and maybe a spare starter motor - nothing else practical will work.
