ultra low profile strainer?

I need a strainer that will work for my generator that is very low profile. I only have about 8" from the thruhull to the waterline, and the current one is too tall. Ideas that would be suitable for a strainer?

Something like CP Performance - Polished Offshore Sea Strainer - 1" NPT Dual Inlets/Outlets I think they are called pancake strainers. You trade diameter for depth but work the same.
