Newbie blues or Neophyte Serendipity?

So I came down to the Charisma this morning, made sure she is secure in her slip, added a couple fenders and checked that she's water tight. Even though the hurricane looks like it'll blow by New Jersey offshore, we're getting plenty of rain and wind this morning.

My thoughts are definitely with everyone facing this storm head on, yet part of me almost wants to set a storm sail and go find a secure cove to anchor out to feel the storm under my keel instead of just watching from the sidelines. Am I really crazy?

Have you ever spent some time on anchor in really bad weather? It can get very rough and uncomfortable. You can puke your guts out really fast, and it may get too rough for you to change your mind and go ashore. Count your blessings and don't push your luck.

Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.

I'd rather be sailing than at anchor in rough weather! As Kriss said you can really get bounced around. Gotta use common sense though! Sometimes you just have to ride it out for better or worse at anchor.
Same goes for motoring much smoother ride under sail.

Hey,

I once felt like that. Then I got stuck on my boat in marina for 3 days while a nor'easter raged. That cured me of wanting to experience bad weather. It also cured my wife and kids of sailing vacations.

When asked what it's like to go through a tropical cyclonic storm at anchor, I equate it to standing one foot away from a freight train doing 70 miles an hour for eight hours or longer.

Bad idea. Think about the fact that once it became obvious, you would have no way to retreat.
