Building a small catamaran.

Found this video of a simple catamaran that was build form wood and foam insulation, pretty interesting.

Re: Building a small catamaran.

Paul, used boats have never been cheaper. By the time you get all the materials and gear you need, you will likely spend 5 times as much as the cost of a decent used cat. And you can go sailing right away, not after many months of labor.

Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.

Re: Building a small catamaran.

For $1,500 you can buy a used Hobie 18 with a tilt trailer, ready to go sailing today. I doubt you can buy just the mast for a new build for that price. And the trailer alone is probably $1500 new.

Not to mention saving hundreds of hours of work on an iffy boat with no resale value.

Re: Building a small catamaran.

How about pride of build. Nothing to do with practical. That's like Mom not praising child for the crayon drawing because the magazine's got nicer pictures. My first self designed/built boat wasn't something to write home about either. But Mom said 'that's my boy' so I built another .
