"where I grew up,"
Welcome to the global village. Where each one of us came from, is often very different. Where we are...sometimes changes radically and unexpectedly from day to day.
As long as no one is insisting that they have a right to lift my wallet, I tend to wish them well and follow the mantras of "Look, it's the Goodrich [sic] Blimp!" and more recently, the Cartoon Network's clever billboard campaign:

"Pretty! Pretty!
Shiny! Shiny!"

('toons are easily distracted by glimmering objects.)

""Tanstaffle" means" Remind me again, the "e" in tanstaffle is for?
Is those what cannibals eat with maple syrup?

What Bob Heinlein, author, officer, and gentlemen by way of USNA Annapolis actually said was "TANSTAAFL!" There ain't no such thing as a free lunch.

And, less often quoted, "Welcome to Liberty Hall. Spit on the mat and call the cat a bastard." And I've got *no* idea quite what that one means. (Anyone?)

Of course, the couple that is writing as "bigdreamthinwallet" could easily be a pair that you wouldn't want to be trapped on a boat with... or they could just be a whiny couple that is otherwise ok...

The real thing that offends me is the "Hey! If someone is stupid enough to give me money, why shouldn't I have it?" attitude, and the kind of person that it takes to have such an attitude.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

Got a conjecture of what it means.

Sorry bout the spelling error. I did gleep it from Bob as you sussed. English is my primary language and I can barely spell in that. Altho I didn't really gleep it from Robert I got it from one of his characters an "L. Long" I believe. Since the Chemo some details have slipped a bit.

When I think back on all the times I've been offended by other peoples behavior and attitudes, I have a hard time even catergorizing. I've been offended by people that think it's ok to do and think things that I find barbaric, much less uncivilized. Whether it's violence, lust, greed or whatever, people do things that shock and offend. And the thing is, they always have. Maybe we'll evolve out of it someday, but I'm not holding my breath.
The internet is just another street corner.
Oh yeah, I want to be quite clear here, unless you've got it on tape, I'll swear I wasn't even there.
