Needed gift ideas for the boating lady

Hi all, I知 new here, I値l apologize now if this is the not the correct forum for this topic. I知 also relatively new to sailing so, I had long x-mass wish list. My wife is ready to join in the fun of sailing. After looking at my list she asked 努hat do I need to start sailing next spring? All I致e of thought of are sailing gloves, deck shoes and life vest. What else will she need or want for cool weather sailing.

Notes about us:
We live Kansas so most sailing on fresh water lakes
She will be taking classes on sunfish
I just bought a Buccaneer 18
We also be sailing on 30-40 boats here and the Chesapeake Bay this summer

Thanks

Welcome to Sailnut JoCo.

I was going to suggest sailing lessons for her but it seems like you have that covered.

Sunfish are great fun to sail but can be a tad wet. To help make her Sunfish experience more comfortable I'll suggest you get her a 2 or 3 mm thick wet suit, full body or partial. Hopefully she enjoys swimming too because a suit like this can extend your swimming season as well.

Dock
All I need to ensure my Commodore is happy is to stay well stocked in wine and ice.

We went out one beautiful day with those who wanted to wet the rails on my boat, and those who wanted to to enjoy the sun and wine on my buddies boat. (Helmswoman stayed sober)

Next thing we knew they were running us down, calling over the radio about something wrong with their boat.

When we got close enough to yell and see what the issue was, they told us they had no corkscrew and wanted ours. We tossed it over into the cockpit and went about our day.

Bloody Pirates.

Sailing a Sunfish can be a wet experience, but it can also be a "hard" experience. A wet suit is a good idea, but one thing I really liked were these padded sailing shorts my wife found for me: they have a seat cushion built into them; thin, flexible and very comfortable; made of quick dry nylon like a swim suit. Makes sitting on the hard surface of the Sunny for a few hours much nicer.

Warm, comfortable clothes are a must for a sailing lady. Almost every woman I took sailing was a lot colder than I was, while we were dressed in the same type of clothes and doing similar tasks. Good jacket and good, padded pants. I would buy quality, all synthetic, mechanics gloves from a hardware store rather than typical leather sailing gloves. Leather just fall apart when wet and subject to rubbing.

Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.

I agree with everyone else as well, the warm weather gear is going to be key. I'd also suggest a pair of floating sunglasses. Can't tell you how many MOB I have marked on my phone navigation app to try to go back and find later.
Check it out, this is just on the lake that I live on (all the blue markers)!!

Another idea is a head band. Women's hair can get very unruly on the water and keeping it out of our eyes helps a ton when you're trying to learn something new (and even if you're a seasoned pro it's so much easier to see where you're going if you're not trying to see through a head of hair). I picked out this as something I'd like so maybe it'd work for your honey too: http://www.amazon.com/BLOM-Multi-Style-Headband-Fashion-Guarantee/dp/B00PP83QQ2/ref=sr_1_2?s=sports-and-fitness&ie=UTF8&qid=1449630532&sr=1-2

Waterproof storage bag for phone, purse etc? Hand-held anemometer, compass etc? Little Garmin 76 or similar GPS for speed boasting? I think most things you would want for a sunfish on a cold day are the same regardless of gender.
