Southern Cross water damage

Any other Southern Cross or Allied owners out there. Thomas Gilmer was a great designer! I am new to the boats and would like any advice. I have been sailing mostly Pearsons, so i see this as a big step up for me. The only thing I don't like is the deck stepped mast! I can't for the life of me think of why he didn't run it to the keel. Everything else on the boat is very seaworthy. Has anyone torn of the cabin roof to repair rotting cores under the mast? The Allied Seabreaze is a very similar design as the SC 31 but the used solid glass under the mast. Any help would be great!

Beautiful boat! I'm not sure if this will help but try www.triton381.com. This is one of Tim Lackey's websites. Tim is a surveyor and successful restorer of classic vessels. This particular site details (and I mean DETAIL) his restoration of a Pearson Triton. His newest project: Allied Seabreaze! From what I glean from his sites, he loves to hear from people and is more than happy to answer questions and provide guidance.

Thanks for the info. I fell in love with the boat the minute i saw it. After lots of tapping it seems the damage may not be as bad as i was previously led to belive. Some of the symptoms were actually caused by inproper tuning of the running rigging! I still have lots of work to do though.
