Re: Pirate skeleton found...

How do they know it was a "notorious" pirate? I read the article and didn't see any speculation about an identity, other than to say it was likely a pirate put to death and displayed to warn other pirates. I was thinking it was going to claim to be Captain Kid, Blackbeard, etc.

Re: Pirate skeleton found...

I read the article and the headline is more exciting than the actual facts...although it is pretty interesting.

This does bode the question:

Are pirate skeletons lame?

Not if you make an actual skull and cross bones out of them! But if you just put an image on a flag then yes.

Re: Pirate skeleton found...

The suggestion of a pirate is highly speculative. The remains appear to be partially articulated so could have been deposited after having been partially decomposed and might give credence to the theory. An interment outside of a cemetery suggests to me a suicide as that will exclude a person from sanctified ground. I do wonder why a shallow burial, as stated, was excavated in the manner shown in the photo.

this picture makes the pirate look like an 70's pop star and nothing like Johnny Depp so it can't be real

Re: Pirate skeleton found...

Here in America things are different. All our pirates are in congress. They hide their skeletons in closets.
