IdaSailor rudder for Chrysler C22

Has anyone here had any experience with the rudders from IdaSailor? My stock rudder is seriously cracked.

I got one for my previous boat, a Hunter 26, and it was nicely made, fit well, and was an improvement over the stock rudder.

Resurrection of a dead-thread here.

About to order from IdaSailor. New kickup rudder assembly.

Any other information, good or bad. Gonna make a call in about an hour and get one on order.

Ok... been three hours. Probably didn't give folks time to respond, but... oh well.

Ordered a new rudder and tiller assembly for my Mac Venture 25.

The old one is pretty bad shape - and I don't like the idea of a rudder than can easily break off in the shallower waters I'll be in. Thus... KICK UP!

Anyway, I'll give you all a write up later on this next season when we get her in the water.

Three hours???

I thought you said three weeks!

There is one thing I hate about the idasailor rudder.

It seems a shame to have to drill the holes in it.

Honestly you will love it.

Drill holes in WHAT!?!?!?!

LOL

I've got to climb inside and into the very stern of the boat, probably tomorrow (think it will be too cold tonight) and remove the bolts and the backplate inside holding the brackets. The inside has a wooden back plate that has rotted out - and I think what initially happened many years ago was the boat hit something with the rudder and damaged it and loosened the bolts.

That in turn, caused a leak, which rotted the wood.

The old rudder is in pretty bad shape so we decided to replace it (keep the old one, perhaps make it into an emergency rudder, maybe not, it's pretty heavy).

So - well, thanks for the information. The IdaSailor folks were very helpful and walked me through measurements just to "make sure" they got things right. The rudder fits perfectly. I might have to do something to limit it's travel though - I'll figure that out one day this spring!
