October Storm

Here's an interesting article about last week's storm:

Food for thought.

A good story, and those are the very reasons why I chose a marina north of the New Bedford Hurricane Barrier. While, it may be a bit of an inconvenience at times, being up on the Acushnet river, north of the swing bridge and hurricane barrier means that my boat wasn't exposed to the strong storm surge that the boats in Padanaram faced. Also, the only direction my marina has much exposure to strong winds from is the southwest, which is generally not the direction of the winds found in most storms from my experience. :D

October 28th was so mild, we decided to sleep aboard at the marina that night . . . what a ride! The wind was out of the southwest on Narragansett Bay - being tied to dock on the east side with a high freeboard and exposed on the west with constant 50 mph wind, 60 mph gusts, we were heeled over at least 10-15 degrees all night. At times it felt as if we would be knocked down at dock.

I think you mean October 27th. October 28th had very strong winds, at least in New Bedford and Fairhaven.

We slept aboard the night of highest winds . . . that was Saturday night, the 28th. The temps were unseasonably mild, but not the wind.

Ahh... I thought you meant the winds were mild, which they certainly were on Friday, but the temps were pretty mild throughout.

All times are GMT -4. The time now is 07:30 PM.
