Chesapeake Bay Sailing Traditions

Is it a Chesapeake Bay tradition to go sailing on New Year's Day? I mean other than how it is a tradition to go sailing at any opportunity. Thanks!

Many of us Chesapeake Bay sailors have a tradition of sailing on New Years Day. Some yacht clubs sponsor various versions of the "Hang over Bowl' which is short frostbite style races on New Years Day. I usually try to get out on New Years Day under the Italian tradition (not that I am Italian, but I like the tradition) that what ever you do on New Years Day you are bound to do lots of during the year.

Jeff H, do you know the history of either of those traditions or how to find out more about it?

One way would be to sign up on the Chesapeake Bay e-mail list available through this site.
