I don't think so. Years ago before this site went down and was then revived into what it is today, I don't believe it was this way. Now that is not to say that the users have changed but I think that people have become more familiar with the I'net and attitudes/pesonas have changed. I believe it is just a symptom of the I'net being older than it was then and the affect its had on people using it...for better or worse.

Sailnet 5, 6, 7 years ago was a friendly place with a ton of great info w/out having to wade through all the ****. The info is still here as are some good people but unfortunately so is the ****.

Now the thread is degenerating into the Monty Python "Argument" sketch.

Quote:
A: Come in.
M: Ah, Is this the right room for an argument?
A: I told you once.
M: No you haven't.
A: Yes I have.
M: When?
A: Just now.
M: No you didn't.
A: Yes I did.
M: You didn't
A: I did!
M: You didn't!
A: I'm telling you I did!
M: You did not!!
A: Oh, I'm sorry, just one moment. Is this a five minute argument or the full half hour?
M: Oh, just the five minutes.
A: Ah, thank you. Anyway, I did.
M: You most certainly did not.
A: Look, let's get this thing clear; I quite definitely told you.
M: No you did not.
A: Yes I did.
M: No you didn't.
A: Yes I did.
M: No you didn't.
Well, perhaps a variation on that theme

Take the fights to the Fightclub for Sailors thread . . . if anyone's feeling belligerent.

Ya know, these threads that start out so innocently and then digress into vehement argument about points that were not even a part of the original thoughts or questions seem to die a very natural death on their own.
I think they serve as an outlet for people to vent and maybe as a window into what would otherwise be an anomymous personality.
If it really bothers me, (or bores me), I just don't read it.

That is a great point. I also think that there are people that love to throw handgrenades into a thread just to see the reaction. One person posts something innocently then the hand grenade comes in by someone saying "I am offended by that." Then they sit back and watch the fireworks.

It is best to just pass.

Cheers
Dennis
