Shame on you....shame on you....

Sorry this has nothing to do with sailing. Just wanted to let it out...

Shame on you for the remarks made on a post - DIY bottom paint - in G&M.

I don't understand how Sailnet allows some of the remarks on that post to be there. If Sailnet does a decent job at removing SPAM, porn and other objectionable stuff, why are you accepting this??

I think that members such as moody30 (that wrote it) and people such as Camarade, Trueblue, pigslo, etc. (that don't see nothing wrong with it), should be banned.

I don't care who they are, what they do, but this is really in poor taste.

So, one day, child molestation, and rape, are OK, but, it all depends on the angle you look at it?? We must address the problems, not just ignore them and they simply go away. The old adage of "don't read it if it offends you" is pathetic and simply a way of putting your head in the sand and pretending it did not happen or was said, we should together fight them.

IMHO these members should be simply removed and not allowed back.

Why hasn't sailnet done anything yet?? Are they "buddies"???

Action requested immediately.

If sailnet banned all who disagreed with someone there would not be a site left...ever give that thought?

Insails, it's not a question of disageeing or not with the issue. It's the racist remark, and those who don't see it as wrong.

I'm not saying this because I do not agree with the remark, its because it is a sad remark.

If the remark was about child abuse, for example, you would like to see it removed, right? Agreeing or not, right??

They should be out.

Afterguy,

you seem to have appointed yourself not only to be the moral guardian of this site but, at the same time, to be the sole judge of what is or is not appropriate.

I find your sheer affrontery in attempting to force your interpretation of a remark upon others even more reprehensible than the comment that provoked your reaction in the first place.

[rant]
The comment is (in my opinion) not racist, and it would seem that I am not the only to say so. Correct me if I am wrong, but there were only two members to have stated that the post was "racist"; and the only one who can categorically state what the remark was meant as is the author. The discussions that went back and forth about labor practices were more interesting than the original topic (sorry, don't have to worry about bottom paint for a while). If stating a fact, no matter how uncomfortable it might be, is deemed racist or otherwise politically incorrect then I'll be happy to let myself be labelled as such instead of ignoring the truth as a matter of being expedient.

First of all unless Mexicans have somehow become a race and teenagers are definitely not a race, it cannot be a racist remark. Inflamatory remark or a generalization maybe, but not racist. As many who cry racist about a remark Afterguy chooses to ignore the real problem and therefore becomes part of the problem. If Mexican's do not want to be thought of as illegals, they should fix the problem.
I always find it interesting that the first amendment allows freedom of speech but so many people add as long as I agree.

Afterguy, those comments were not racist, they were fairly accurate. When we lived in San Diego, we always used mexican help on our autos. Guess why?
They were the cheapest.
Do you know why many nail salons are run by asians? They charge less. It is simply a fact.

A forum is for discussion. What pisses me off is that people want to censor points of view that differ from theirs.

Afterguy, instead of being thankful for the opportunity to express your point of view, and perhaps enlighten those that disagree with you, or enlighten those that simply had not considered your point of view, you are falling into the abiss of political correctness where, we discuss what is PC and not what is right or wrong.

I just realized, after looking at afterguy's posts, that he is probably nothing but an internet troll who enjoys causing heated exchanges and fomenting trouble. At least the posts are consistent with troll behaviour. I'll be smart, not play his game, and just ignore him from now on.

Sailormon6 will become famous soon enough
We all say things that don't come out the way we intended, and when I read something ambiguous on the forum, I try to assume that my fellow sailor intended the less offensive meaning, rather than the contrary. Likewise, when I say something that sounds really stupid (as I certainly do, from time-to-time), I hope my friends on the forum will give me that same benefit of the doubt.
