Good point Parley, I was thinking more of the "grossness" factor, (guess it's a word now PBzeer), but safety is surely a greater consideration. Though keeping the better half happy should not be under-emphasized.

Plastic jugs and the like are the unspoken heros of many boats. Too rough to stand at the rail or go below? Pass the jug. It just doesn't get printed up in the sailing mags that way.

Gotta agree with ebs about the size of some marine toilets...I'd rather use a cedar bucket or a 5-gallon pail with a real seat on it than some of these toys being passed off as heads.

Egos? Washing the floor and the inevitable exposed plumbing around the bowl a couple of times, puts egos in their right place.

One of the nice things about getting older is that you learn you don't have to live up to anyone's expectations but your own. Society is full of little boxes they are always trying to put people in, whether they fit or not. Not for me. I'm not without my share of pride and ego, but I try to keep it to my values, not someone else's. After all, it's my life, not theirs.
