"Swinging the Compass"

Rather new to sailing and like information on the methology of "Swinging the Compass" to compile a up-to-date deviation table for my boat. Can someone please explain to me?

The process of swinging the compass is rather involved. Suggest you find a text on the subject. If you have a specific question re. swinging the compass I will try to explain
