Shuttle night launch ,who sails to watch?

Just curious. If I lived anywhere near there on the Florida Coast,I'd just have to sail out to watch...Launch is scheduled November 7th 9:35 EST.

You can't get very close to the launch area in a boat - the area is super restricted starting 4 days before a launch. Also, there's a front coming in Thursday. We'll just watch it from the back yard. It is really cool to see them go up. They launch Atlas rockets all the time. If you are inland, you can't really tell the difference between a rocket launch and a shuttle. (Up close the shuttle launch is much louder and more impressive). Many times we have been in the car driving home from work and look up to see a rocket shooting up in the air. A few weeks ago we were pulling into an anchorage on the Indian River Lagoon and looked at the horizon to see a firey tail following by a plume of puffy smoke. You never get tired of seeing them. Just an added bonus to living in Central Florida.

From what I understand, much of the water east of the launch area is restricted, as that is the "abort" area, where the shuttle will crash if it blows up on take off.... If there is even a single boat in that area, they will often be forced to scrub the launch...which is why they are pretty draconian about enforcing the quarantine.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.
