Panama Canal

I have just purchased a 1975 33' morgan outisland sailboat and it is in Portland, Or. My question to all is, going to Florida and going threw the panama canal, where can i get information about the trip and what about
pirates. I have herd that it is pretty bad around there. is this true
all welcome ideas and sugestions.

We've made the trip twice, the most recent being 3years ago. Both times were very enjoyable and uneventful. Someone must be pulling your chain - the only pirates you'll see are in Colon. You shoud try going "through" despite what you "heard".
With that size boat, don't try to do it in one day.

Plus handlers, and a number of other ups and extras, not the least of which will be mooring/dockage fees while you are waiting to be called through. (Commercial traffic has priority.)
