What's with these &quot s??

Is this something in my browser settings, but in all these messages, when someone puts 'quotes' (I would assume they are double quotes) around anything, all I see are &quote... example below...

and building the "Cruising Kitty",

This makes it a chore to read, and would love to get this straight. Is it me or is it Sailnet??? Any help would be most appreciated...

Looks like some variation of URL encoding. When you enter text and submit the text, the text is URL encoded (or XML conversion). Double quotes are encoded incorrectly. Might be an XML issue. Did you try the using the quote tag (the dialog bubble right above the text area)?

Does it work

the quote button uses quote=name inside of brackets and ends with /quote inside of brackets. It could be someone is using them incorrectly is why it comes out that way. Just using the " comes out right for me in a sentance.

Since the new SailNet owners upgraded to new softaware, the code from posts created with the old system, seems to be incompatible when resurrected.

Yes, I'm seeing the same problem. I'm new here and have been reading lots of old posts with messed up quotes and "&"s.

Unfortunately, some of the noobies are resurrecting older threads without regards to the fact that they've been dead for a few years.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

It seems to me that it's the posters settings that are the problem.

If I "put these words in quotation marks " they seem to read OK to me when I've posted.

TDW.... I see your "quotes" fine, so very possible it's the "resurrecting older threads" that are appearing with the "&quote" bracket. If that is the case, are the "powers that be" at this esteemed website aware of this?
(are there enough quotes in my message?:-)

Since threads here tend to be high on the information quality scale, I'm not in the least surprised to hear of them being "resurrected", despite the graybeard's querulous comments. Apparently, dog, the conversation wasn't over just because you walked away. If you've already read every post on sailnet and are so knowledgable that you aren't interested in new members comments, then maybe it's time you found something else to do with your leisure time. Offended by my response to your whine? Now you know how the "noobs" feel.
