Actually, Global Warming is a conspiracy to not have to dredge the ICW.

The ICW is shoaling badly in many areas, particularly Georgia. There has been a lack of funding to keep up with the problem areas. So....if the polar icecaps melt, thereby raising the sea level, the shallow areas will be deeper and not need dredging. Now, did that hurt all that much?

I know, and you know, just where this was going when you started it! My only response was, "that b******, here we go!" but I was helpless not to follow the thread. I have the same problem with willowy ash-blonds in crowds, it's like they're trolling a barbed hook.
With out touching the relavent point, has it occured to you guys that we really don't care what is going on, on the west coast, and that news from there just extends the commercial breaks on TV? Since I can't think of much of anything positive to emanate from the west coast in the past twenty years I'd just as soon the news from there was advanced at the rate of the prevailing westerlies versus the internet. California now seems to extend to Colorado's eastern border, and since our betters in DC seem to take west coast thinking seriously, we in the midwest are feeling the pinch. Weather forecasts are, what we in Michigan listen to, now that Carson is off the air. A little comic relief before bed. You don't hear people out here cryin' about the snow-we thought it was supposed to snow when we moved here, big surprise. We also thought that the weather on the west coast was dominated by the vagaries of that large body of water next to it, or was Mrs. Nagle wrong? I discovered ash blonds in eighth grade and might have missed a couple of salient points in geography class as a result.

Yeah, the biggest problem with this whole scrambled climate is we've lost our gloating rights - buried in snow when Toronto (TORONTO!!!!) was basking in sunshine and warm weather - it just won't do....

But really, with hurricanes drifing south in the last couple of years, I was wondering if Europeans or those down under were seeing similar changes in "traditional" patterns.

I don't think the current West Coast weather is anything outside of the historical norms. Every so often there is a big set of storms that come in and cause hurricane force winds and angry seas. IIRC there were 50+ foot swells coming in to the California coast during several winters (both recent and distant history).

Get out there and SAIL! The calm times between the storms on SF Bay are great for getting acquainted with your new boat and learning to optimize in light air and/or singlehand! We were out yesterday and the wind was 5-10kts and we sailed from Richmond to the gate, around Alcatraz and tacked back home against an easterly wind (an odd wind pattern on SF Bay for sure).
