Hello.....We are looking for owners and information on the Finnclipper 35/ Finnsailor 35. We are in the process of a refit of our 1970 Finnclipper 35 Motorsailor. Built in finland in 1970 by Fiskars. Any insight, advice, comments would be helpful and appreciated. Thanks, Capt Bob
Good strong looking Boat Bob. Looks like a Steel hull especially from the stabilizer fins. More of a motor Boat with sails but that's not all that bad.
She is Solid fiberglass. Design derived from North Sea Coast Guard Rescue Vessels. Very Stout ! Classic, Roomy cabin. Thanks for you interest and comment Albrazzi.
The stabilizers are glassed on. The one Finn owner I've been able to speak to told me she sails well but it takes a pretty good breeze to get her moving. We are yet to launch ours.
I believe the Finnclipper is actually a Finnsailer 35. The germans liked to call them Finnclippers - I was told this by someone who went to the factory to get their boat in 1973.
I may be a new owner of one soon.
So do you all love them? Why?
Hello Dan,
The first couple production years they were Finnclipper 35, also Finncruiser 35(no mast) then Finnsailer35. Ours is a 1970 Finnclipper 35 (see photos in previous posts) believed to be one of the first produced. Yes we Love her...enough to continue with her restoration. We have yet to have her in the water but that day is approaching ! We are on Lake Texoma in Texas...where are you and what are you looking at as you mentioned you may be a owner soon..
Thanks,
Capt Bob
Thanks for the reply, I was looking at this: Sailboats built by Fiskars (Fiskars AB ) by year on Sailboatdata.com and the information I got from a prev owner. I have seen many picture of sailoats with Finnclipper on the sides of them. Maybe it was the ones they were shipping to Germany or even they changed it year by year. Not sure. I am only relaying informaton - but it will be fun researching. I "may" be the owner of a 1973 Finnsailer 35 soon.
Hey Dan, Glad to hear you may be a Finn owner soon ! Good Luck with that, I hope all goes well. I know of one Finn in Savannah GA by the name of Cornucopia. There are not very many in North America. I've never heard the Germany thing before, I've attached a photo of a original 1970 Finnclipper 35 ad that I have. I also have a original Finnsailer brochure from 1973. It seems the changes made to the vessel after the first couple production years was the galley and helm station in the pilot house. The stove was moved and the gauges were rearranged. Some vessels had a custom interior but for the most part, they were all identical.

I stand corrected! It looks like I am going to be the owner, guess my credit is ok afterall! It is a 1973 Finnsailer 35 in good shape. I have already begun collecting info and pictures of all the finnsailers I have seen on the net. Maybe I will organize it one day. We should have an owners group / yahoo / facebook... something.
Congratulations Dan ! I'd love to see some photos once you get her. You can contact me @ barnaclebobsadventures@yahoo.com....We have been working on our restoration for a while now. Glad to hear your new vessel is in good shape ! I too have done a lot of research on the Finn. Good Luck ! Please keep me posted.
Capt Bob
I will be in touch. Hopefully in the near future we can round up some owners and make a group somewhere. There are some people in Europe that seem to have some interest.
Its official, and would'nt you know it I have a nice leak in the stuffing box. Do you have the Perkins 4236 in yours? I helped the PO clean out the bilge a few days earlier with what I though was all rainwater, not much, but its a big bilge. The float switch seemed to be fouled with the bilge pump wiring, but its working now. Still making me nervous. I am going tomorrow to attempt a slight tighten of the packing nut.
Congratulations ! I can't wait to see a photo of Meta Jeanne. Yes, our power plant is a Perkins 4-236, 1984 Lowline. We are not in the water yet. Getting ready to fire her up any day. We have a number of projects to complete before we launch. You can email me at barnaclebobsadventures@yahoo.com I am interested in all you are learning and would enjoy sharing knowledge. Good Luck !! Be Safe and Have Fun !
Capt Bob
I am getting ready to move her to her new home, its about 10 hours at 6 knots, so we will see how she does. There are a few hoses on the motor that I don't like but I will take it easy. I have to move her because she is at a private dock. Bilge pump works and I have TowBoat US so hopefully all goes well. I will be hauling out soon to replace the old gate valve thru hulls and paint the bottom.
Trip is from Flagler Beach, FL to Jacksonville, FL.
Ahoy Dan,
Wishing you well on your voyage ! Hope to see some pics ! You can contact me @ barnaclebobsadventures@yahoo.com I have lots of photos of the restoration we've been working on......Sure wish we were cruising' instead of painting and turning wrenches but alas...our day draws near !
Be safe, Hope all is well !
Has anyone accessed the chain plates for the upper shrouds? My starboard shroud has pulled up from the deck some and I need to re-bed it. It looks like I have to cut an access panel??
Dan, my upper shroud chain plates are embedded in the hull in an upside down t shape. unless you open the hull you won't be able to get to them. I opened an access port inside and installed new external chain plates using the inside hull plates as additional support and cur all the extra stuff off and sealed with fiber glass has held up for 20 some years. Contact me if additional info is needed. Jerry
Jerry,
Thanks for the reply. Could you send me some pictures if you have time. My email is: sehl DOT dan AT gmail dotcom.
I just finished a 10 day haul out, was under a time crunch and did not get to that project. I did replace all thru hulls and seacocks with Groco Bronze (flanged type). Replaced the stuffing box packing, painted the bottom, did the boot stripe and top stripe. Sanded the rudder to the metal and glassed it with cloth and barrier coated it.
It was ALOT of work, but now I know I won't sink at the dock - all thru hulls were frozen open.
Thanks,
Dan
