It often pays to check industrial suppliers for some things. Grainger, McMaster-Carr and the like will often have some things that are either of better quality or better price than is found in the marine distribution system.

Marine electrical products by Cole Hersee (http://www.colehersee.com/) are usually top notch and can often be found outside of "marine" channels for reasonable prices. Example: http://speedometer.tripod.com/product.htm

One more plug for Defender. I bought a Ritchie Navigator binnacle compass from them last fall at about a $60 saving over any other outlet that I could find. It does pay to watch for their sales.

The best prices for Electronics I have found is at http://www.davesmarineelectronics.com/
I would avoid ebay buy it now prices as they always seem to be high. BTW I have no affiliation with Dave.
