Maybe Winter is Over???

We got out this weekend, finally, after an unusually un-left-coast winter. Plenty of spells of sub freezing temps, a fair bit of snow and plenty of rain in between.

Our club's first event of the season, an easy 10 NM sail to a nearby island marina. We rent a nice old house for potluck dinner and morning breakfast before heading home.

The weather cooperated but it was still pretty cool under that big gray cloud.

All in all a good day until we noticed that our bottom batten pocket had opened up, fortunately did not lose the batten and there's time for a trip to the sailmaker for repairs..

Re: Maybe Winter is Over???

March has been so lousy, I haven't even been to the boat to change the zincs yet. Presumably launching next week. I suspect the yard will be behind schedule.

Glad to hear someone is sailing.

Re: Maybe Winter is Over???

Is winter over? God, I hope so.

New England/Mid-Atlantic got hit with a very late, lengthy blast of deep, cold weather and snow. We're still operating at below average temperatures. Thursday morning is predicted to briefly be below freezing but I'm betting that's the last time.

I've still been sailing but I've had enough day sailing and I'm ready to GO somewhere.

Re: Maybe Winter is Over???

Expected to be single digits here in Vermont Thursday morning. Does make for good skiing though, especially with the 33 inches of snow we had in the storm last week. Hope to start on the boat next week before heading back up here for some spring skiing.

Re: Maybe Winter is Over???

When I worked in New York City and lived aboard my boat. I'd launch at the end of March and sail to NYC as soon as the marina opened up beginning of April. Now that I'm retired I don't seriously start spring outfitting until the beginning of May and now launch in late May or early June. Of course doing some charters in warmer latitudes over the winter and spring helps keep the sailing jones at bay somewhat.
